Please Help Amanda!

This is my friend. Her name is Amanda.

Amanda is awesome. She’s a cosplayer, she co-ran the anime convention Animarathon for two years, and last year she worked an 8-week internship in London. There’s a picture above of her with David Tennant. You can be jealous if you want.

Amanda is from the USA, and she went to college with me, which is where we met and became friends. The thing is, though, after college I went home to a big city that could actually offer me jobs, and Amanda went home to what’s technically a village. There are NO jobs, at least nothing that can pay off her student loans and help her pitch in on her family’s bills. She worked a seasonal job that laid her off recently. She applied for a substitute teaching license, but that hasn’t come in yet, and she’ll have to pay for a renewal after four months, anyway.

So she has taken a huge, huge, HUGE fucking risk and paid to take TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification classes. A TEFL certificate can be the key to getting a job overseas teaching English, which can pay very, very well.

I don’t doubt for a second the strength of Amanda’s commitment to her overseas endeavor. She’ll work her ass off at her TEFL classes, study hard to pass the test, and scour every avenue she can for a job until she finds one. Amanda is strong, and she gets shit done.

But the problem will be actually getting to the job once she has it. Plane tickets are horrendously expensive, and Amanda can’t get a job that’ll cover all her expenses in her life PLUS this one, so even if she gets a TEFL certificate, she’s basically stuck.

So on Amanda’s behalf, I’d like to ask people to visit her GoFundMe page and donate at least a dollar. Her friends (myself included) have already pitched in but obviously it’s not enough, and she really needs the help. She deserves this chance to make a big change in her life, to take a huge risk and do something bigger than seems possible.

Please help me help my friend. This fantastic and brave person really could use something to go right in her life.
