I’m doing a Let’s Play with Pokemon Yellow (because why not) and I’m having a REALLY hard time forgetting that Steel and Dark types don’t exist in Gen I.

Like, I’m constantly overpreparing for Magnemites and Magnetons, and then I’m like “Wait, their defenses are shit now without the Steel-Defense-bonus.”

And don’t get me started on Bite not being effective against a lot of Pokemon it is later.

And Gust isn’t a Flying move? Da fuq?

I’m having some Deep Thoughts about Mewtwo. (it’s Mewtwo’s birthday)

• Mew and Mewtwo both must be female. Mew gave birth to Mewtwo, and Mewtwo is a genetically modified daughter-clone of Mew. The sex of an offspring is decided pretty immediately upon conception, so Mewtwo HAS to be female—even though Mewtwo is genetically modified to have super-stats, I don’t think they would have been able to go in and modify every XX chromosome—IF THAT’S HOW POKEMON GENDER WORKS
• Additionally, Mew likely procreated asexually, and it would have only the female chromosomes to work with.
• And a clone of something is always the same gender, unless the chromosomes are changed before the development begins—I’m guessing on this one because I don’t have a full grasp on the science of cloning
• Thus it’s stupid that Mewtwo’s voice in the movies is male because IT’S A GIRL
• Even though the games say ‘genderless’
• Mewtwo is said to be the strongest Pokemon, but really it’s only strong stat-wise. Mewtwo’s mother, Mew, is stronger based on the fact that it can learn ALL moves. Mewtwo is unable to learn offensive Dragon-type moves. Stats can be increased by use of items, Mewtwo only has the highest base stats available.
• It never really states when the genetic splicing took place. Some sources indicate it was spliced while in the womb, since they named it ‘Mewtwo’ after it was born instead of just continuing with ‘Mew’ as it would with most offspring. Others indicate it wasn’t born of Mew at all, just cloned from Mew’s eyebrow and modified in a test tube.
• The games combine the two: it was born, they named it “Mewtwo” and then genetically modified it. How it grew to look so different from it’s parent Mew without growth assistance is unknown.
• Perhaps it’s skin is actually skin-armor, with the ‘pipe’ outside the back of it’s neck being grown to protect the extra nervous and cardiovascular systems that provide it’s extra power.
